Xinerama isn't needed for dual-head with the new intel driver. David, you can read how to configure X manually at http://wiki.debian.org/XStrikeForce/ReleaseNotes or look at my xorg.conf above. You may want to track Bug #125941, which is about displayconfig- gtk creating erroneous or unneeded xorg configuration data.
