Issue seems to have disappeared. Don't know how, why or even when exactly, but I tried it out again today and mailwatch seems to be working fine. Might have been an issue with one of my email accounts causing a problem (I know pop3 accounts can cause problems for a lot of mail notification programs, so it could have been that).
