Yep, did and it had finally crashed. Noticed that it first (after ca. 10 hours) had a blank screen but with monitor on, and after the night the hdd had stopped writing new information and monitor was off. Compressed with 7-zip (1.7MB against bzip2's 4.4MB).
Oh, and the command was naturally: sudo vbetool vbemode set 0x118 2>vbetrace, if someone else is trying it out.
