** Description changed: It would be particularly useful for Thunderbird that closing it's last window doesn't imply quitting the application. Maybe it's something that should be addressed at a more general level, or there's already a solution to it I have not yet found out. From a user experience point of view, it doesn't make much sense that closing the main window, while for example having the activity window open, keeps the app running, but doing the same thing without any other window open quits the application. Closing all Thunderbird windows but not quitting would allow to declutter the screen and at the same time keep checking for new mail (which would show up on Ubuntu's messaging icon and Thunderbird launcher). - In my opinion this should actually be the behavior for all applications.
