I'm running 14.04 fresh install.
I have an HP-LaserJet-P1005 and it didn't work just added via cups.
I had to install hplip from their website:
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/install/index.html and use that to
set up the printer.
But then I was still seeing errors of "Can't create temporary file" -- running
"sudo chmod 1777 /tmp" also fixed my issue, and printing now works.
