Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and trying to help make Ubuntu better. However, you are using the Linux Mint distribution and you are using software packages that are not provided by the official Ubuntu repositories, namely Oracle Java. Because of this the Ubuntu project can not support or fix your particular bug.
I believe your question about the Java dependency should be answered by the answer to the following question: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/octave/+question/248058 To duplicate slightly here: yes, the octave package does depend on the "default-jre-headless" metapackage provided by Ubuntu. If you install another package not supported by Ubuntu that provides that name but does not provide the same interface, then Octave is not expected to work properly. ** Changed in: octave (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1323979 Title: octave can't find java library To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/octave/+bug/1323979/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
