Not sure if I had the same issue - but is sounds really similar. I have a fresh install of Ubuntu 14.04 running Firefox 29. My wifi would drop randomly and I'd need to disable and re-enable the wifi to get a connection again. I had HTTPS Everywhere installed. Once that was removed, everything works perfectly and I haven't lost my internet connection once.
