We are near to 4.3 release, and this bug is here (or in OO.org or in
various incarnations of the suite) since 2004.

The only thing that happens is that it is marked as a "must have" for
the current version, and never taken care of.

Could a developer comment if this is really impossible to fix? I can
understand that if the internal data representation is completely
different, this thing could be impossible to fix.

It is a show-stopper for LO in my workplace --- I *have* to be able to
interact with MS word and this highlight problem breaks even the
simplest document.
