Enabling the platform development on the device means that you turn your
device into a native armhf builder and packaging machine. This is a
feature for serious power users who need to create .deb packages of the
lower level modules from source.

In the more recent releases I have put this feature one step back, not
to be so visible, as it was causing confusion.

Most application developers do not need this feature.
