I think I'm also encountering this problem. I did a dist upgrade from 13.10 to 14.04, and now when I try to open my gnucash data file it crashes. I see the splash screen with the various "loading plugin" & "opening data file" messages, it then shows me the dialog with scheduled transactions that have become due since the last run. But instead of then displaying the main window, the application crashes. If I create a new data file it starts up okay. But in my existing file I did have a few reports open on tabs, so it sounds like it could be this issue that is causing it to crash when it tries to restore those.
