I've encountered this issue during a Precise to Trusty dist-upgrade if
the package libticables-dev is installed.
Error message:
Unpacking libticables2-6:amd64 (1.3.4+dfsg-3) ...
dpkg: error processing archive
/var/cache/apt/archives/libticables2-6_1.3.4+dfsg-3_amd64.deb (--unpack):
trying to overwrite '/usr/share/locale/fr/LC_MESSAGES/libticables2.mo', which
is also in package libticables2-2 1.3.0-0ubuntu3
Reproduction instructions:
1) Install Ubuntu 12.04.4
2) sudo apt-get update
3) sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
4) sudo apt-get install libticables-dev
5) sudo reboot
6) If you use a VM take a snapshot
7) sudo sed -i s/precise/trusty/g /etc/apt/sources.list
8) sudo apt-get update
9) sudo apt-get dist-upgrade 2>&1 | tee upgrade.log
The issue - the file collision - is deeply buried in the upgrade log.
