I'm having these same problems with chromium-broswer since upgrading to trusty from saucy (kubuntu amd64).
One other thing I didnt see mentioned is that menus are all messed up. They render weird and only a couple items are displayed, with scroll arrows at the top & bottom. This affects context menus (right click) as well as drop-down lists on web pages, and makes web forms practically unusable. I've switched to the Google Chrome Dev Channel browser (google-chrome- unstable package from google) and it works great on my kubuntu trusty. It's a decent workaround until the chromium-browser package is working again.
