This can be reproduced in VirtualBox with xubuntu-14.04-desktop- amd64.iso. Create VM, attach CD image, boot, "Try Xubuntu without installing", "Try Xubuntu", choose Shutdown from desktop, and it hangs immediately after "Stopping early crypto disks... [OK]"
