Seems solution in #68 solved the problem for me.
I installed 14.04 recently and suffered from this problem along with the other 
(often my Xubuntu failed to suspend/reboot/shutdown at all).
So the following steps let me comepletely get rid of these problems:
1. turn off Light Locker
2. uncheck All Settings -> Power Manager -> Extended -> Lock screen when going 
for suspend/hibernate
3. reboot
After all it looks to me like all the problems have the same roots related to 
Light Locker and screwed permissions.
