joeldmhs: The moment you manually install the NVIDIA drivers on Ubuntu your support options change and a degree of care needs to be taken to ensure existing drivers do not interfere. Your issue sounds like it might be a library issue but I would check https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NvidiaManual and make sure you are aware of potential problems...
