Dear all, I still suspect that the problem is between laptop keyboard and its driver.
I have a new idea. Could you please connect USB (or Bluetooth, or Wireless) keyboard to your HP Pavilion's and test <PrintScreen> from it. As I know from my table (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ao5e713Ig9g_dHpGYVlMZ2JuYXdXdEtmUi1QbGxsYXc&usp=sharing#gid=0), all shortcuts works normally on all sessions of Ubuntu 14.04 (Unity, GNOME FlashBack Compiz, GNOME FlashBack Metacity) on my 3 laptops (2 Asus - T101MT, UX32A, 1 Sony - VPCF13Z1R).
