I was installing the various *-desktop packages for a friend to test out
what interface she'd like.
Of course, lightdm got overwritten (what I expected). However, in
looking up the conf files and finding out that they were restructured in
14.04, it seems Xubuntu didn't update it's location.
Unity and Kubuntu put their files in /usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d
while Xubuntu still puts it file in /etc/lighdm/lightdm.conf.d
I would assume that the file should be in the /usr/share tree with the
other files so they are all together.
