This problem has been driving me crazy!!! However I have fixed the
issue with the help of Gareth Fitzworthington (another Gareth :) ) post
above. I just wanted to post and add a little further information.

I have an Acer 9301 laptop with a TSSTCorp TS-632D ac00 drive. I
downloaded the SC04 firmware but when using the SFDNWIN.exe it told me I
could not flash the drive because it was from another manufacturer
gahhhh! However you can use SFDNWIN.exe from the windows command line.
Running:

sfdnwin -nocheck

Will load the application as normal but it will not check the firmware
you load against the spec of the drive. However, be careful!!! You can
now load anything you want in place of the firmware! Make sure you
choose the right file.

So using this small nugget of information and Gareth Fitzworthington's
previous post you should be able to dig yourself out of the hole the
manufacturer put you in.

Cheers,

Gareth Watson
