Public bug reported: I was updating my system from Ubuntu 13.10 to 14.04. Unfortunately, the upgrade process failed stating that the system could be in an unusable state.
Afterwards launching update-manager again, I was offered to perform a partial upgrade. Yet it failed too, stating "Can't install 'ubuntu-desktop' It was impossible to install a required package. Please report this as a bug using 'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal". So, here it goes. Meanwhile, in the terminal ubuntu-manager had the following output: "Starting pkgProblemResolver with broken count: 1 Starting 2 pkgProblemResolver with broken count: 1 Investigating (0) ubuntu-desktop [ amd64 ] < 1.325 > ( metapackages ) Broken ubuntu-desktop:amd64 Depends on ubuntu-session [ amd64 ] < none -> 3.9.90-0ubuntu12 > ( gnome ) Considering ubuntu-session:amd64 1 as a solution to ubuntu-desktop:amd64 0 Removing ubuntu-desktop:amd64 rather than change ubuntu-session:amd64 Done" ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: ubuntu-release-upgrader-core 1:0.220.2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.11.0-19.33-generic 3.11.10.5 Uname: Linux 3.11.0-19-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3 Architecture: amd64 CrashDB: ubuntu CurrentDesktop: GNOME Date: Fri Apr 18 14:37:49 2014 InstallationDate: Installed on 2012-12-18 (485 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.10 "Quantal Quetzal" - Release amd64 (20121017.5) PackageArchitecture: all SourcePackage: ubuntu-release-upgrader UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to trusty on 2014-04-18 (0 days ago) VarLogDistupgradeTermlog: ** Affects: ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug dist-upgrade trusty -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1309485 Title: Can't install ubuntu-desktop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-release-upgrader/+bug/1309485/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
