I also have no sound on an ASROCK motherboard K8NF6G-VSTA (with AMD Sempron 2800) with Feisty. Amarok is pretending to be playing happily, but no sound comes out. I also did a trial with Gutsy tribe 5 from Live CD, but it gave no better result. My original bug report had been closed although there had never been a solution.
Sound was working on some earlier kernels (I believe e.g. with 2.6.10 or nearby), which, however, had problems that sound was lost after suspend and/or hibernate. I have found a workaround which solves some of those problems (although I have no clue why it does; I simply took hints from some of the many sound related bug reports) Status now: - Sound working reliably (loudspeaker, headphone, mic front and mic back) - Hibernate : working well. Sound even continues to play where it was at point of hibernate. (But strange things on screen while resuming from hibernate). - Suspend: sound comes back ok as with hibernate, but screen remains black. Screen's LEDs indicate that there is not even a video signal. And even blind login does not give screen back. Here are the findings of the system: Sound module: snd-hda-intel lspci -vvv reports the very same audio device as in this bug report - "nVidia Corporation MCP51 High Definition Audio (rev a2)"- , with subsystem "ASRock Incorporation Unknown device 03f2". aplay --list-devices reports: "card 0: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 0: ALC861VD Analog [ALC861VD Analog]" Either one of these lines need to be inserted into /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base: (they all seem to work indentically; no discernable difference to me) options snd-hda-intel model=3stack options snd-hda-intel model=3stack probe_mask=1 options snd-hda-intel model=clevo options snd-hda-intel model=laptop This line gave NO sound, but hibernate and suspend worked as with the above lines: options snd-hda-intel model=auto -- Not work Audio device: "nVidia Corporation MCP51 High Definition Audio (rev a2)" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/117246 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
