On the laptop ASUS A8JS :

"lspci" returns :

On Ubuntu Feisty Fawn (7.04, kernel 2.6.20, alsa 1.0.13), the sound was perfect 
with the line :
options snd-hda-intel model=3stack
in the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base file

But when upgraded to Gusty Gibbon Tribe CD 5 (7.10, kernel 2.6.22, alsa
1.0.14), the sound is very low and I have only two channels in
alsamixer. Even with "model=3stack" or by re-compiling the alsa-driver
version 1.0.14. I was unable to compile alsa-driver version 1.0.13.
