*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 103092 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/103092
Hi, i'm new to Linux and I'm trying to install Ubuntu on my system. I've had the same problem with the 'Kernel Alive' bug. I followed the instructions from http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=2566150&postcount=25, I also need to change the res because the display shows up all mangled on anything less than 1280 x 1024 (I have a 24" widescreen) Ubuntu seems to install fine except the desktop doesn't fill the screen. After the instalation is complete and the system goes to restart it freezes on the screen where it says "Please remove CD, shut the tray then press enter to continue". My only option is a hard reset. Ubuntu starts booting up from the HD in a normal way then when the desktop appears the display is all mangled up. I've tried installing nVidia drivers but I can't because of the restart issue.
