L.S., I have exactly the same problem: no audio and the mute light stays on. Contrary to what is mentioned in issue 134206, it doesn't seem to be related to the snd_hda_intel module not being available. The file is where you would expect it to be ( /lib/modules/2.6.22-10-generic/ubuntu/media/snd-hda-intel ) and the module also seems to be loaded correctly:
