Thanks for reporting this issue in Ubuntu. Display hotplugging is not well supported in Feisty, but has received a huge amount of work for Gutsy.
Please test this against a recent Gutsy Tribe CD (ISO's are available at http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/gutsy/).
