Public bug reported: When updating thumbnails on large number of photos digiKam quickly uses all memory and dies.
Similar problem have been reported for Fedora: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1023241 They've tracked the problem to memory leak in libpgf6. The leak has been patched but probably not released as a separate release. Fedora release a package based on svn revision. It looks like similar issue had been discussed in kde mailing lists: http://mail.kde.org/pipermail/digikam-devel/2013-November/070004.html. The solution there is to use newer libpgf6, or use libpgf from digiKam source. Thanks!
