I think I have found a replacement for Nautilus, it is called Nemo (!). >From its webpage (http://cinnamon.linuxmint.com/?p=198): "Nemo is a complete fork of Nautilus 3.4 and its goal is to extend the Cinnamon user experience to desktop and file management."
It is included in Ubuntu's 13.10 default repositories. Install it with: sudo apt-get install nemo It looks a lot like Nautilus, but has the missing goodies: status bar, split screen and backspace key to go up (instead of Alt-up). It seems Nautilus developers are trying to make it simpler, but IMHO they are making it too simplistic. :-/ Nemo is already my default file browser. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1159440 Title: Nautilus not showing status bar by default To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1159440/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
