Public bug reported: For the moment I have a "Dell Inspiron 5160" with a "XGI Volari XP5" graphical card . Xserver works under Ubuntu Drapper 6.06.1 with: * xserver-xorg (7.0.0-0ubuntu45) * xserver-xorg-core (1:1.0.2-0ubuntu10.6) But upgrading to Edgy or Feisty makes X-server crash during installation. Ubuntu loads completely but when switching from splash-screen to log-in, the screen hows completely black and all activity stops (power remains).
Tried fixes: Upgrading from Drapper to Edgy with gksu "update-manager -c" (result: described above) Upgrading from Drapper to Feisty with liveCD without graphics save mode (result: described above) Upgrading from Drapper to Feisty with liveCD with graphics save mode (result: described above) Upgrading from Drapper to Feisty with liveCD with graphics save mode and sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg with vesa-driver (result: described above) Upgrading from Drapper to Feisty with liveCD with graphics save mode and sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg with trident-driver (result: the Ubuntu-startup song is coming out my speakers and activity on CD but screen remains black) This bug affects: All following laptops Manufactor: Elitegroup Computer Systems; Model: 532 Notebook Manufactor: Dell Inc.; Model: Inspiron 5160 Manufactor: Toshiba; Model: ??? ** Affects: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Upgrading from drapper: xserver failes (XGI) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/133864 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
