For some weekes now, I had this problem with setting "Standard" in the "TV Settings->Playback" menu too. (On Ubuntu Feisty and on Gentoo.)
Today I disabled the "Support for the Xorg Composite Extension" on Gentoo (USE-Flag xcomposite), installed new builds of the affected packages kwin and kicker and now it seems to work without any problems there. BTW I had Option "Composite" "Disable" in my /etc/X11/xorg.xonf anyway, but this seems not to be enough.
