As said by Sisofe this looks like a problem with the proprietary nvidia driver,
but this should have happened all the time since the last update of this driver
was done 23 May 2007.
It would be helpfull if you try to find the package that caused the problem,
the feisty-changes mailinglist can be a great help here.
Around August 7th I only find one X related update for
xserver-xorg-video-intel:

this is probably unrelated to your problem.
