Public bug reported: I compiled courier-mta (using the apt-get source/fakeroot method with --with-gnutls as additional config flag) against gnutls and experienced severe performance problems.
Testing shows that downloading a 10MB-attachment with the openssl library takes ~1.6 seconds, but ~60 seconds using the gnutls library. More details and test methods are described in this mailing list thread: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_name=52CFECFC.5070300%40lenzw.de&forum_name=courier-imap More investigation has shown that this bug does not apply with newer versions of gnutls, namely 2.12.16 fixes the issue. (From 60s down to 1.5s) I am attaching a patch which resolves the problem when applied to gnutls26_2.12.14-5ubuntu3.
