I had the same problem using the Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88E8053 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 22) in a MacBookPro C2Duo when copying large amounts of data via ssh. Sending empty packets via netcat didn't trigger the problem. I found out that plugging the two computers together directly instead of using a hub solved the problem. Still I don't think the problem is only related to the hub, because the other computers on this hub didn't have the same problem. I'm using the gutsy kernel from git with mactel patches.
