Correction, not Verdana but Garamond (and also a similar font jGaramond). To clarify how the characters are displayed: Å (A with a ring above) is displayed correct, Ä (A with diaeresis) is displayed as ϝ (Greek small letter digamma, italic), Ö (O with diaeresis) is displayed correct. And for the small letters å (a with a ring above) is displayed as  (A with circumflex), ä (a with diaeresis) is displayed as %o (cant find a corresponding character for that), and at last ö (o with diaeresis) is displayed correct.
