Public bug reported: Hi, A bug has been encountered that Is leading to unnecessary wear on SATA HDDs:
All SATA HDDs spin down when I restart my Dapper (6.06.1 LTS kernel 2.6.15-28-386). I have googled for a good few hours on the problem with no solutions; I have however come across this thread detailing the same issue: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=256789 >From this thread it emerges that the problem: *doesn't effect PATA drives, only SATA; *has apparently gone away in Feisty I *did* find an earlier bug report on the issue, but I would prefer not to restart it as it's vague and is unlikely to come to a conclusion: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.15/+bug/51634 Here's a qoute from the thread that I would have to agree with: "It _is_ slightly more than an annoyance though. 1) It prolongs the reboot time 2) It wears the harddrive. Spinning up and down is, as I understand it, one of the absolute top things that wears a hard drive." Any help appreciated. For more info just ask. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- All SATA but not PATA HDDs spin down needlessy on Dapper restart https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/133279 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
