This bug was fixed some time ago; sorry for the lack of response here. Another bug makes --native-ctrls not work with JSBsim aircraft (including the default c172p) in 2.10 and 2.12; this is fixed in 2.99 (packages available from https://launchpad.net/~saiarcot895/+archive /flightgear-edge , but please note this is a development version so likely to have other bugs).
