I have tried the daily image in a virtual machine (VirtualBox).

The setting to control the touchpad is not available in the "Mouse and 
Touchpad" settings there.
Is it supposed to be there, and the touchpad "just" does not get detected in 
the VM?
(at least this is what appears to be the case for the Wacom Tablet settings)

Let me know, if I need to test it from a Live stick directly on the
host.

OTOH, I got used to not using "tap to click" now, and therefore my
interest in getting this fixed/debugged is rather low.
