** Description changed: I just installed Xubuntu 12.04 (i386) (fresh install) on my Toshiba Satellite Pro L-350 (Canadian). I noticed that when the laptop is running on the battery alone, the Hard Drive turns on and off every 30 seconds. This happens continously and doesn't stop. I can actually hear the click of the hard drive turning on, and it coincides with a spike in System Monitor for the Hard Drive being "written" once. On A/C power the hard drive doesn't turn on and off and it remains ON all the time. But the 30 second "write" spike in System Monitor still happens. I just installed Xubuntu and this is observable by me not doing anything to the computer and just watching the System Monitor and hearing the HDD after boot. In Power Management, the option for "Spin down hard disk" is ticked off for both "On AC" and "On Battery."
