ldm migth be ok. Atleast there is some files in ltsp chroot.
In the clear install there is _no_  lts.conf. Ading one with SCREEN_xx = 
(something) leads to this kind of bug if (something) is startx or nonworking 
shell. Removing this directive from lts.conf gives ubuntu login screen witch 
has working keyboard. but entering username/pass gives only reloading of , what 
i think is, ldm. Removing lts.conf gives no chanege. Pressing Alt-F1 for shell 
an trying to login gives "Login incorect".

I think that xubuntu is total mess.
Also I think that tweaking one software packeg is ok if you write down some 
where what you have changed. And I mean somewhere easy to find, no in some 
chanege log in some kind of mailing list.

Evreting else makes what you've done non-free software.
