In spite of the documented work-around in the bug description, it no
longer works in Saucy (13.10) Xubuntu - maybe other distros too. Every
time I click on a link in Thunderbird, it triggers the "Choose Preferred
Application" pop-up. I have to select "Chromium" and then I can be on
my way. This is really annoying.
