I have the same problem with Ubuntu 7.04 on an Asus P5B-V mobo with integrated Intel G965 graphics and 2 GB ram. It also have random screensavers and some hang and some don't. When it hangs I can switch to a virtual console, but I can't seem to get my desktop back without rebooting. I have Desktop Effect enabled.
