There, I've identified a bug, confirmed it's reproducible and how, established the culprits involved but to summarize:
identified bug: Kernel Panic --not syncing fatal exception in interrupt how it's reproducible: Start mplayer to watch a video or vlc with infrared enabled or $ irrecord -d /dev/usb/hiddev0 -H macmini output_conf_file culprits involved: lirc ath5k workaround: sudo rmmod ath5k Don't use the remote comments: The bug exists upstream The bug possibly seems to have existed since 3.8 Now I don't know what ath5k has to do with infrared but there's little doubt in my mind that there is a conflict between it and lirc functionality. Let me know if this is going to be taken care of else I'll take it upstream with the atheros and lirc people.
