Simon K, would disabling the discrete graphics card in BIOS be an
additional available method?

As well, given the issue appears to be identified with vgaswitcheroo not
quite being free of causing collatoral damage, and you have what appears
to be an acceptable alternative to disabling your graphics card, would
you like to pursue a fix for this, or would disabling the garphics card
via upstart-job be considered a solution?
