You have been subscribed to a public bug: I noticed after performing updates 2-3 weeks ago that my messages indicator no longer turns blue to notify me that I have chat messages waiting. It also does not show unread chat messages in the list like it used to.
I have tried apt-get install --reinstall indicator-messages, and I have tried resetting some of the settings in dconf-editor, but it has made no difference. I suspect a required package was removed or a new setting was not applied, but I don't know what it could be.
