I experience the same issue. I've tested this a bit, and this only happens (to me at least) with Intel Haswell and Iris. I know that almost an identical situation (hangs slightly more frequently) was encountered with SandyBridge, and a patch to X was issued then, and there was a patch for X when IvyBridge came out that also fixed GPU hangs. Wheter or not this is helpful, I hope this gets resolved quickly, as it does unfortunately make the device a pain in the ass to use.
