Thanks for your kind, fast response!
..the preveious distro was 10.04..and the pointer movement was controlled
by using the tab button and the up-down-right-left-arrows. I believe there
was a box on orca preferences that you check to enable keyboard commands or
keyboard shortcuts..this way, when you moved the mouse pointer using a
keyboard command, orcha would speak or identify whatever the pointer would
land on...for instance, on the desktop you hit tab and keep hitting tab and
it would keep moving to the next icon on the desktop and would speak the
item it was on. It doesn't do that in distro 12.04.02, which is the
current distro we are using. If you're blind, you have no way of knowing
where the mouse pointer is on the screen.. Also, on the 12.04..if you roll
the mouse pointer over the icons on the desktop it doesn't speak them
either. I'm totally blind and I need it to tell me what the icons I'm on
are..
I've been using orca now for a couple of years and have made cd's of all
the keyboard shortcut commands to learn them (talking book type of lessons).

Hope this info will help with a solution..

thanks..
