Hi, I am having the same setup. I am running dell vostro 5460 with ubuntu 12.04.3 with kernel 3.2.0-52-generic and GNOME 3.4.2.
I am sorry for not being exactly clear on how to use the script that you have written. Do I paste into certain files to test it out? If test is needed, please do let me know.
