I'd suggest you try http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/dapper- updates/main/installer-i386/current/images/hd-media/boot.img.gz (Note the -updates in the URL), since the dapper kernel has been updated since the release, and the installer in -updates should be able to cope with that.
