Kernel 3.8.0-30 broke brightness control in my case. I have an IvyBridge fullHD XPS13, BIOS version A08, with Ubuntu 13.04 booting in UEFI mode with Legacy Option Rom disabled. Actually, with this configuration brightness control was broken in 3.8.0-18, fixed in 3.8.0-20, broken again in 3.8.0-21 and fixed for 3.8.0-22... Exaclty the opposite of what some users report. Now I found that brightness control works with 3.8.0-30 booting in UEFI mode with Legacy Option Rom enable (but not used). For me, this is an acceptable workaround, but if someone is using Secure Boot it is not possible to enable Legacy Option Rom. It seems that when booting in UEFI mode different quirks are needed depending on the Legacy Option Rom setting in BIOS.
