This bug also occurs with Linux Mint 2.20. Ihave an old IBM Thinkpad
R30. I tried to install Linux Mint after many tries with all versions
of Fiesty Fawn and then bailed out to Linux Mint. Received the same
error message but I had removed the quiet splash and their installer
suggested using "irqpoll". I put that at the end of the command line
(f6) entry after removing the "quiet splash" and it installed. Went
back to Ubuntu and did the same thing - added "irqpoll:" and it
installed as well. I then went ahead with the full desktop
installation. I once again received the standard tty error at reboot.
I started in rescue mode and modified the /boot/grub/menu.lst to simply
add irqpoll at the end of the command line and I have a running system.
When I added the new kernal 2.6.20.16 from 2.6.20.15 I again had to
modify the command line, but it continues to work. Hope this helps.
