Greetings. I have experienced the same problem Greg Supina has been through. I am using Lubuntu 13.04, which I installed a few days ago by updating Lubuntu 12.10. My computer is an Athlon X2 (AMD 64), with 2G RAM, and NVIDIA Corporation C61 [GeForce 6150SE nForce 430] (rev a2) . Prior to this update, I had no problems with Firefox or Oracle Virtual Box. After the update, launching Firefox or Virtual Box (4.2_4.2.16-86992, Raring Ringtail) made the system crash, and the screen was filled with a regular bar pattern. This made it necessary to cold start repeatedly.
After the update, If I booted with the previous kernel (3.5.0-37-generic), Firefox did not exhibit such behavior and worked normally. I could not test this with Virtual Box, because I did not have the previous kernel headers anymore. However, here is the interesting thing: I was using the nouveau graphics driver, so out of a hunch I decided to install the nvidia drivers via Synaptic. This has solved the problem, at least for me. Both Firefox 23.0 and Virtual Box 4.2_4.2.16-86992 have been working fine for the last 24 hrs. I hope this helps. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1176062 Title: System usually crashes when starting Firefox and/or Thunderbird To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1176062/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
