I hope the attached information may help you determine why, but my
gnome-system-monitor will not launch. I wish I could provide more
information, but all I can tell you is I cannot launch it from Unity.

I've also  tried launching it from the command line using the command:

gnome-system-monitor

The only feedback it gives is:

"Timeout was reached"
